Undergraduate Curricula
Learning Outcomes and Credit Unit Statements
Learning Outcomes
The Senate in April 2008 approved the adoption of an Outcomes Based Approach to Student Learning, after which Faculties have developed Programmes Learning Outcomes which aligned with and achieved the Educational Aims and Institutional Learning Outcomes for Undergraduate Curricula in respect of all degree curricula and/or Major programmes.
Credit Unit Statements
Every undergraduate degree curriculum and Major and Minor programme has a Credit Unit Statement for its courses. A standard 6-credit course will be defined according to
(a) | the total student commitment of approximately 150 hours (but within the range of 120-180 hours); |
(b) | the output requirements for assessable coursework and examinations; and |
(c) | the number of contact hours of instruction required to achieve the stated learning outcomes of the courses within the curriculum or programme. |
